Went to Meat and Wine Co in South Yarra for a birthday celebration and was very disappointed:-there was a $5 surcharge on Sunday per person which we had not been told about when booking (I’d called the restaurant, but even online that doesn’t appear to be communicated). We were a table of 4 adults with 3 kids under 10 and it is over the top to charge $35 for the privilege of dining on a Sunday, particularly with 3 kids included. After we got up to leave, they agreed to waive the surcharge for the kids (although the bill included one of the kids which we had to get corrected) – still, I would have booked another night had the policy been communicated tome.- I got the $65 Ribeye shorthorn and it was substandard – really thin cut and did not have the texture or taste you’d expect for a MB 2+ steak- the kids menu has ice-cream included, but it never arrived and when we were leaving I remembered and asked about it – was told that it would have come if we’d ordered dessert For the price we paid for the meal, I would have expected a much better experience. Will stick with Squires Loft down the road next time
