We went around 2:40pm – 3pm on Saturday, 30 July, for a late lunch at their Perth branch. A male staff at the door asked us if we have a reservation. We told him we have none and he said they didn’t have space for us inside for walk-ins so they can only accommodate us outside if we were willing. We can see though that there were several vacant tables inside but apparently those are for those with reservations. Though it’s a bit chilly outside, we agreed as we’re already hungry. To be fair, they provided my wife and daughter a blanket and heater near our table so it was somehow okay. We ordered a full rack of pork ribs and a large calamari. I think that we have been waiting more or less 20+minutes and the food hasn’t arrived yet. It’s a good thing though that a female staff member came over our table and checked on us and followed up on our order. Our order finally arrived after about 10 more minutes of waiting. The presentation of the food was good. The calamari was good. However, the pork ribs was quite disappointing. It seemed good on the outside but it was quite dry, burnt and and there wasn’t a lot of meat. For $69, it felt so overpriced. To be honest, Aldi has an $18/kg BBQ pork ribs and it was way meatier, juicier and tender than Hunter & Barrel’s. I was quite disappointed about that. It’s quite a shame because my wife has enjoyed her previous visit at the branch a few years ago that’s why she recommended that we eat there. Unfortunately, I don’t feelsatisfied with our meal. What could have been done better to satisfy our experience:- Maybe it’s just me but I don’t think that around 3 pm was a very busy time. With several vacant tables inside and considering that my wife is 9 months pregnant, it would have been great if the staff found a way to seat us inside. For me, that would be an example of exemplary customer service.- I don’t mind paying $69 for the full rack of their “legendary” pork ribs as long as it lived up to its name on their menu – tasty, juicy, tender, and meaty. We left the place in a good mood, but the more it sank to me that we paid $69 for a mediocre rack of BBQ pork ribs, the more I felt like I got ripped off. Such a shame. I’m not sure I’d be willing to dine there again…
