Hunter & Barrel Ringwood-Eastland-Scott Douglas

I’ve eaten here 3 times. I think the decor is meant to give off a hunter’s log cabin vibe but it comes off a bit tacky. The menu is standard steakhouse fare and once served, the dishes themselves are less than exciting (steak and chips/salad anyone? ). The steaks themselves vary between average to ok and even though high $30s to $40+ for steaks is normal these days, I couldn’t help but feel a little disappointed (don’t bother ordering the wagyu, they seem to be perpetually sold out). Contrast this to an outstanding quality steak I had at a small pub in Sydney recently for less dollars and it drives home that feeling of disappointment. The service was enthusiastic but inconsistent with drinks orders taking some time. Food came out quickly and all together which, is a big positive. Nothing worse than waiting hours for your meal. Overall the experience is ok, not outstanding. I can’t help but feel that a little more imagination with the menu would make Hunter and Barrel really good rather than just another ok bistro.
