The Meat & Wine Co Circular Quay-Circular Quay-Howard C

We made a booking for 6pm and arrived to a restaurant that only had 5 tables occupied. The tables were uncomfortably close to each other and the couple next to us afterwards actually asked to be moved as the restaurant still look half empty and yet, they were seated right next to us. We never felt that there was a waiter assigned to our table from the beginning, and in fact had to ask to have the order taken.

Despite the restaurant being so quiet, the waiter still managed to take our order incorrectly. When the food arrived, the waiter blamed the other waiter for taking the incorrect order and pressured us into taking the incorrect order for my wife saying that a new steak would take 17 minutes. I insisted that we wanted what we ordered and the waiter came back saying the new steak would take 13 mins. The steak came in 20 mins while I waited with my steak and all the sides sitting at the table getting cold. We were not offered to have the sides taken back to keep warm.

The table next to us came after and asked us if they were meant to order at the counter. I said definitely not, not for the prices they were charging.

The top of the range rib eye Shorthorn appeared to look like a new yorker
rather than rib eye and was overcooked to medium rather than medium rare. Inexcusable for $61 a steak. Wished I had taken a photo of this. The sauces (pepper and mushroom) were unusually sweet too. The only upside was the chips.

We will NEVER return and could name many other steak places in Sydney better than this one. The Meat and Wine co at Darling Harbour use to be very good. It’s a shame the chefs and waiters didn’t transfer across!!
