The Meat & Wine Co South Yarra-South Yarra-Kaylee Walsh

Don’t even bother. The worst dining experience I’ve had which is super disappointing as we have been to Chadstone and South Bank Meat and Wine Co and have had the most outstanding experiences at both of them.

Staff were lovely on arrival but unlike the other restaurants, our waiter was constantly changing so we didn’t get to make a connection which I feel is important for a good experience.

We then tried to order off the aged steak menu but the flavour wasn’t to our liking (no issues there) so we decided to go with our favourite wagyu rib eye which we were then told has been unavailable for quite some time ( I get that covid can make things difficult, but we were super disappointed with this) we then decided to chose the next rib eye down but… you guessed it.. sold out. So our only option was their basic rib eye and their wagyu rump steak which we were told was a average cut of meat. We ordered the basic rib eye and the rib platter and crossed our fingers for a nice steak.

Whilst waiting for our food they tried to deliver us two drinks at two seperate times and then told us that they had to move us to a different table because we ordered so much???

When we sat down at our new table, they immediately brought us the bowl for our rib bones and our water bowls to clean our fingers. These are brought to the table warm except they were brought out a good 30 minutes before our food arrived so upon time to use them, it was cold water? No other meat and wine co brings the water bowls out first.

This was a special occasion (my birthday) and we travelled from regional Victoria just to come for their well known and delicious steak. Instead we were served pub like steak, it was chewy and tasteless and again super disappointing.

At the end of the meal, the staff could tell we were really disappointed as they kept looking at us but nobody bothered to ask us how our meal was even as we were paying the bill. On exit of the restaurant we spoke to the waitress at the front and explained how disappointing our experience was and honestly she couldn’t of cared less.

Considering we spent $240 on this meal, I feel like it was a complete waste of money and a pub meal in outback Australia could’ve given me the same experience. Please do better for the sake of Meat and Wine co’s name because I know the other restaurants do the name justice.
