6 Head-The Rocks-Catlin Brown

I booked a reservation here based on the proximity to the Opera House and location on the harbor. We were celebrating my mother-in-law’s 60th birthday by attending a nice dinner and a show at the Opera House.

To say the evening was tarnished by our experience at 6HEAD is an understatement. My mother-in-law left in tears because of our experience at the restaurant. What started out as a beautiful evening being seated by the water, quickly descended into disappointment once it took 10+ minutes for a waiter to come and ask for our drink order. The waiter was unable to understand any of our orders and had to have us repeat what we asked for. Once the drinks were brought out, one of them was completely wrong and we had to send it back.

After that, we had to get up and ask the waiter to come to our table so we could order our entrees as we had sat down at 4 PM and it was already 4:45 PM and we had to be at the show by 6 PM. Keep in mind, we have only received one drink at this point and have not been asked if we’d like another.

We finally placed an order and once again, he had us repeat what we had ordered after we had all already ordered. That goodness we did, because he had mixed up two people’s steak orders and preparation preferences.

Again, no drink orders were asked for. About 20 minutes goes by and we start to notice that our waiter is nowhere to be seen. Finally, my brother-in-law stands up and asks someone if we can have a waiter come to our table. A new waiter approaches and we ask where ours has gone – he responds by saying our previous waiter “went on a break.” Completely inappropriate given that we had now been there for an hour and it did not appear there was a proper hand-off. We ask the waiter to please rush our orders as we had a show to get to and made a 4 PM booking to give us plenty of time to get to the show. After another 15 minutes, the food arrives and as the two people who had to repeat their steak preparation preferences again to the waiter cut into their steaks, they quickly realize that the correction had not been made and they received the preparation styles of the other person – one of which includes my mother-in-law who’s birthday we were celebrating. By the time a waiter had come over to ask how everything was, it was 5:20 PM. Meaning that, to send the food back, it would take an additional 10 minutes to get it again and they would have to quickly eat a $80+ steak. Once again, not appropriate. As we were waiting, finally someone asked if we wanted more drinks, but by this time we had decided it was no longer worth enjoying our time here as we had to get up, go to the manager, and pay our bill.

Thankfully, the manager took the steak that was $100+ and cooked incorrectly off our bill. However, it did not make up for the overall disappointing experience we had. This experience was not something I, being a Sydney local, would have ever expected from a restaurant like 6HEAD.
